Weekly Mileage

Last week I ran six days for a total of 49.7 miles.  I was able to get a good hill workout in on Tuesday, a 10 mile tempo run on Thursday and a long run on Sunday.  The weather this week was crazy, the week started out with lows in the single digits and temps when I did my workouts in the 20s with wind chills in the teens.  I was bundled up and I still had to stop to try and warm my hands after only a mile because the cold wind was going right through my gloves. By Saturday I was running in shorts and a long sleeve shirt feeling like I was over dressed, crazy!

Training Plan for 2012

I came up with a training program based on my training plan for the 2010 Boston Marathon and added some mileage based on what I have been doing for the past few months.  I ran the Bucks County Marathon back on November 20th so my mileage has been higher then normal.  I will use the training I did for the Bucks Marathon as my base for this year's race.  I should be running about 50-60 miles a week.  Last year I did about the same mileage but I'm changing up my Tues workouts to add back in the hill workouts I did a couple of years ago that I think hurt my 2011 race.

Happy New Year

Well, I ended 2011 with a 16 mile run and started it with a 4 mile run both in shorts!  I definitely can't complain about the recent run of good weather we have been having.  I'm hoping the new year brings faster times and great running weather :)

Treadmill training

I have been off from work for a week now and besides running everyday I have been training my 5 month old Vizsla Duke to run/walk on the treadmill. Basically, I'm just getting him used to it at a walking pace so when he gets older he is not afraid. Right now I don't set the treadmill faster then we would walk and I don't let him go for more then a 1/2 mile. Once Duke is old enough he will become my new training partner, but till he gets older he will have to deal with walks outside and on the treadmill.

Long time no see

Well, I'm registered for the 2012 Boston Marathon to be held on Monday April 16th.  There are 115 days till race day and there are lots of miles to be run before the gun goes off in Hopkinton.  I will try and keep up with the blog again this year and I will even share my results from last year's race.

Something new I am going to try is sharing some of my runs.  I work for Motorola and have been testing the new Motoactv device, which I am liking more and more.  The web portal is just fantastic, here is a link from my run today, http://bit.ly/vcY2vp.  Just a note, this is purely a recovery run, so it was run at a relaxed conversational pace.

Goal Time

My goal time for this year is under 2:45.  The only factor as of right now will be the weather, if the weather turns cold and raining that can be a real problem and at that point I will adjust my goals.

18

18 - the number of minutes in improvement from the 2009 to 2010 Boston Marathon.
